2009 (Junior): Wil began the indoor season with a strong performance at the Don Barrett Air Force Duals (Jan. 31) finishing in first place in the 800-meters (1:55.89). He scored at the Air Force Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 13), claiming second place in the 800-meters (1:53.80). Wil scored three times during the outdoor season. At the Wyoming Gem City Duals (April 18), he finished in third place in the 800-meters (1:50.82). He took first place in the 1,500-meter run (3:50.09) at the Front Range Invitational (May 2). He claimed second place in the 1,500-meters (3:56.61) and third in the 4x400-meter relay at the MWC championships. At the NCAA Midwest Regional meet, Wil recorded a personal best in the 1,500-meters (3:45.86) to qualify for the finals, where he finished third, earning his first trip to the NCAA championships.
2008: Wil redshirted both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
2007 (Freshman): Wil attended the University of Colorado. During the indoor season, he scored at the Air Force Invitational (Feb. 2) with a second-place finish in the 800-meters (1:55.14). During the outdoor season he won the 800-meters (1:56.12) at the Rob Upton Invitational (March 24).
High School: Wil was a four-time letterwinner in both cross country and track while at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo. He was all league/all-city all four years in cross country and track. In 2005, he was the Colorado state champion in the 800-meters and part of the Front Range Conference track champions. He holds the school 800-meter record (1:52.19), set in 2005.
Personal: Wil was born Dec. 12, 1986, to Kris and Carol Buchanan. He has a younger sister, Kate, and a younger brother, Matt. He is majoring in chemical engineering.
