Program Overview

Qwest and Colorado State University are proud to present the Qwest Playmaker Award program. The Qwest Playmaker Award is designed to recognize elementary students, grades 3-5, who are making a difference in their schools and/or communities. Poudre elementary school teachers and principals are encouraged to nominate a student(s) who demonstrate leadership and concern for others and their community to be a Qwest Playmaker.

All Poudre Elementary Schools are eligible to participate. 12 winners will be selected based on a letter of recommendation from their school and will win:

  • 4 tickets and 1 parking pass to a CSU Football home game and the opportunity to join the Team Captain on field for the coin toss
  • $250.00 grant to their elementary school from Qwest
  • A chance to be selected as the Grand Prize winner who will have the opportunity to host a pep rally, including CSU coaches, cheerleaders and mascot

Qwest and CSU are proud to sponsor the Qwest Play-Maker Award program, which is a great way for you to recognize students who demonstrate leadership, citizenship and commitment to the community.

Contest Rules

1. Poudre School District elementary students, grades 3-5, are eligible.
2. All entries must include nomination form and letter of recommendation from teacher or principal.
3. Letter of recommendation should highlight how the student's leadership skills and how she/he is making a difference in his/her school and/or community.
4. Entries may be submitted starting August 28, 2009 and must be submitted no later than November 13, 2009 to be considered for the 2008 CSU Football Season. Please see game schedule below and entry deadlines for each game.

September 12th vs. Weber State
     Entry deadline: August 28, 2009
September 19 vs. Nevada
     Entry deadline: September 4, 2009
October 10 vs. Utah
     Entry deadline: September 25, 2009
October 24 vs. San Diego State
     Entry deadline: October 9, 2009
October 31 vs. Air Force
     Entry deadline: October 16, 2009
November 27 vs. Wyoming
     Entry deadline: November 13, 2009

Q & A

How will the entries be judged?
Entries will be reviewed on an on going basis by a committee of judges made up of representatives from Qwest, Colorado State University and the Poudre School District. Entries will be judged on several criteria including; leadership skills, citizenship and service to community/school. Decisions made by the judges are final.

When will the winners be notified?
Winners will be notified one week prior to each game.

What will the winners receive?
The 12 winning nominations will receive 4 tickets and 1 parking pass to a CSU home game (date to be determined based on when the nomination is received), the opportunity to join the team captain on the field for the coin toss at the start of the game, a $250.00 grant to your school from Qwest and the chance to be the grand prize winner. Please note that transportation to and from the game will not be provided.

What will the grand prize winner receive?
The grand prize winner will receive the opportunity to host a pep rally for his/her school including CSU coaches, cheerleaders and mascot.

When does the contest begin and end?
Nominations will be accepted beginning August 28, 2009 through November 13, 2009.

Who may enter?
All Poudre Schools are encouraged to nominate students, grades 3-5 to participate in the Qwest Play-Maker Award program.

How does a school nominate a student(s)?
A nomination form and letter of recommendation from a teacher or school principal is required for each students nominated for the program. The letter of recommendation should touch on the student's commitment to their school/community, leadership ability and overall good citizenship.
