Colorado at #1 Alabama – POSTGAME NOTES
Sept. 16, 2017 | Bryant-Denny Stadium | Tuscaloosa, Ala.
#1 Alabama 41, Colorado State 23

  • CSU's 23 points were the most Alabama has allowed this season. Alabama only gave up 17-plus points on three occasions last season. The 17 points were also the most by a non-"Power 5" program against Alabama since Houston scored 24 in 2007.
  • The Rams were 10-for-17 (58.8 percent) on third downs. CSU has converted on 50 percent or better on third downs in each of its first four games. For the year, the Rams are 32-of-59 (54.2 percent) on third downs.
  • True freshman Warren Jackson hauled in his first two career TDs. His first, in the second quarter, was Nick Stevens' seventh TD pass of the year – to the sixth different target. Jackson became the second true freshman to register a TD reception this season (TE Cameron Butler vs. Oregon State, Aug. 26.). Jackson's second TD came at the 1:46 mark of the fourth quarter. He becomes the first Ram with multiple TD receptions in a game this season. Jackson's 2 TDs were his only two receptions of the day.
  • Alabama scored on its opening drive of the game – the first time a CSU opponent has scored on its first offensive drive this season.
  • Michael Gallup's 39-yard reception from Nick Stevens at the 6:50 mark of the second quarter was the second-longest pass play of the season for CSU, behind Gallup's 48 yard reception from Stevens against Oregon State on Aug. 26. Gallup finished with 5 catches for 81 yards.
  • QB Nick Stevens was 21-for-38 for 247 yards and 2 TDs. Stevens has now thrown multiple TD passes in 10 of his last 11 appearances. He completed three passes of 25 yards or longer (one each to Michael Gallup, Izzy Matthews and Dalton Fackrell).
  • CSU's TD at the 2:18 mark of the second quarter came after the Rams' longest scoring drive of the season – 6:17 (11 plays, 85 yards).
  • CSU scored on consecutive drives in the second quarter – the first time an Alabama opponent had done so this year.
  • In the second quarter, the Rams:
    • Scored on consecutive possessions (FG at 10:34, TD at 2:18) and outscored Alabama 10-7.
    • Possessed the ball for 11:43 (compared to just 3:17 for Alabama).
    • Outgained the Crimson Tide, 155-85.
    • Converted 5-of-6 third downs
    • Ran 23 offensive plays (compared to just 8 for Alabama)
  • The Rams finished with 391 yards of offense on 78 plays and possessed the ball for 33:53. The Rams have won the possession battle in all four contests in 2017. CSU is averaging 79.5 offensive plays per game.
  • Linebackers Josh Watson and Tre Thomas led the Rams with 7 tackles. Watson has led (or co-led) the team in tackling in each of the first four games.
  • Freshman punter Ryan Stonehouse recorded a career-best 65-yard punt at 10:24 of the first quarter, pinning the Crimson Tide at their five-yard line. He finished with 3 punts for 151 yards.
  • Bryant-Denny Stadium was sold out, with 101,821 in attendance. It ties the largest crowd the Rams have ever played in front of (at Alabama in 2013).
  • It's the third time the Rams have played a No. 1-ranked team:
    • Sept. 16, 2017 at #1 Alabama (L, 41-23)
    • Sept. 21, 2013 at #1 Alabama (L, 31-6)
    • Sept. 11, 2004 at #1 USC (L, 49-0)
