Hall of Fame Class of 1999

Football (1980 to 1982)

Richie Hall walked on to the CSU football team and walked off in 1982 as an all-conference defensive back and return specialist. First used as a wide receiver, Hall transitioned to defensive back and immediately made an impact during the 1980 WAC championship run. Hall also received the Nye Award for outstanding male athlete in 1983 and signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in May of 1983.

It was in the CFL where Hall, a one-time Rams teammate of CFL Hall of Famer Less Browne, experienced his greatest athletic success. In nine seasons with Calgary and Saskatchewan, Hall was named to four CFL West All-Star teams and helped lead Saskatchewan to the 1989 Grey Cup Championship. In 1990 he received the Tom Pate Award for outstanding community service. Hall retired as a player in 1991 and became an assistant coach in 1994 for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Hall coached in Saskatchewan from 1994 to 2008 as defensive coordinator helping the Roughriders win the 2007 Grey Cup. He was promoted to head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos in 2009 where he coached for two seasons. He returned to Saskatchewan in 2011 to be the defensive coordinator.
